Origin of Islam

The origin of Islam began in the year 570 A.D. with birth of the baby in the city of Makkah (Mecca), Muhammad.
Through the angel Jibril (Gabriel), he became the Prophet of Islam, or also known as the Messenger of Allah.
Jibril (Gabriel) came to Muhammad while he was meditating, or rather praying in a mountain cave, called Hiraa. He gave him what looked like a white cloth covered in writing and told him to recite, but Muhammad refused at first because he was never taught to read or write.
But at one look, he fluently spoke the words as if he had known them all along. From that moment forward, he spent the rest of his days in his holy position in Allah’s service teaching the people how Allah wanted them to live.

Islam is an Arabic word that means submission to God...(wiki.answers.com, 2012).
The word Muslims means "those that summit."  (Islamic Stories, 14).
