Worship Practices and Buildings of Islam

Sacred Buildings of Islam
The holy building of Islam is the mosque where prayer is specifically used, but the structure has other functions as well. For instance, religious discussions can be held, and education and charitable work is organized. Mosques are open to the Muslim community all week long and have special Friday prayers. “Most mosques serve their local area and form the spiritual center of the community.” (Eyewitness Islam, 18).

This photo is a bird's eye view of the Muslims during Hajj at dusk. This mosque is rather famously known for only celebrating this holy day.

This is the very first mosque ever built. This sacred building was put together by the hands of Muhammad himself.
Worship Practice
Worship is an important part of Muslims’ lives. Prayer is the second Pillar of Islam, as some may well know. During prayer, a precise order of motions and words must be performed. Depending on which of the five prayers being said, the prayer must be performed two, three or four times. This pattern of movement and saying is known as rak'a.
